Hayward police Tuesday are continuing to investigate the fatal shooting of a man inside a crowded bar early Saturday morning.
Lt. Chris Orrey, a spokeswoman for the Police Department, said this afternoon the department is not releasing the identity of the victim because it would compromise the investigation.
She said some people were arrested at the bar after shooting, but not for the murder, and declined to elaborate further on the arrests.
Officers were called to the Viper Lounge bar at 29308 Mission Blvd. around 1:40 a.m. Saturday on reports of a dispute between two groups of people and were notified of the shooting shortly after, police said.
Arriving officers found a large group of people fleeing the bar and inside located a Hayward man suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley where he died, according to police.
The suspect has been described only as a Hispanic man in his 20s or 30s with short dark hair, police said. He was wearing a white T-shirt and was last seen fleeing the bar on foot.
Witnesses told police the victim and the shooter were involved in a dispute between two groups.
Orrey said Tuesday investigators are continuing to interview witnesses and have not determined the motive in the shooting.
"We're investigating all angles right now," Orrey said. "We don't know that it's gang related. We don't know that it's not." The shooting marks the city's fifth homicide this year.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact police at (510) 293-7034.
