POLITICS: CANDIDATES COMMEMORATE 9/11
The presidential campaign has turned quite ugly in recent weeks, but candidates Barack Obama and John McCain have vowed to set presidential politics aside for the day in honor of the seventh anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks. The two will meet at Columbia University at 8 p.m. and speak separately at a nationally televised forum, laying out their personal visions on civic engagement and service.
In a joint statement, the the candidates said: “All of us came together on 9/11 - not as Democrats or Republicans - but as Americans… On Thursday, we will put aside politics and come together to renew that unity, to honor the memory of each and every American who died, and to grieve with families and friends who lost loved ones.”
