Eastbay treasure/Bay Area up and coming Rapper "Pretty black" was killed a little over two months ago. But due to minimal coverage by the media, for fans of Pretty black as well as bay area hip hop followers in general, this information has not hit the mainstream media and is not well known. Those of us that listen to bay area hip hop, are heart broken and discouraged. but why has there not been much information released about this? I am an informed adult and i went looking for any answers on the web, the radio stations websites, as well as other avenues, and there is little to no information about P black. Everything i have heard has been word of mouth or information off the streets. The media attention i do see is minimal and negative. Newspapers offer vaugue accounts and statements from unreliable sources, that confuse the story more than clarify the actions that transpired leading up to the incident and eventually the demise of a bay area hero. The only information i have gotten was off the man's myspace which has been modified to pay respects and honor the slain rapper.
Pretty black was a solid dude. not knowing him personally, his music is one that captures street life and fortitude to survive humble beginings. His will to survive is a testament to his good nature and effort to make a better life for his family as well a himself. Although a young dude his lyrics and personality were heard clearly through his music and it was apparent he was ahead of his years. Collaborating with the artist such as the mobb Figgaz, The Jacka, Mistah FAB, Yuk-mouth, other Artist off of the Regime and Rap-a-lot Roster, Pretty Black often times shined, and held his own in the booth.
the Chicago native and San Leandro resident cofounded the Money Over Everything entertainment company in 2003 and recorded many songs, including the eerily prescient, gritty/melodic "Heaven for Gs." "G" stands for gangsta:

Smiling playfully in the picture on his MySpace page, which bears the slogan"Nigga I Talk Money and Shit Diamonds", the full-cheeked singer sports a huge dragon pendant signifying membership in the Regime Dragon Gang group, founded by Oakland rapper Yukmouth. Many pictures on his Myspace showcase Pretty black's infectious smile and other images displaying his happy and fun lifestyle he created for himself.

A 25-year-old San Leandro man who police were told was a promising rapper was shot to death Friday night at an East Oakland apartment complex.
He was identified as Ayoola Matthew Odumuyiwa, who police were told performed under the name ''Pretty Black.''
He was found with multiple gunshot wounds about 9:44 p.m. Friday May 30 2008in an apartment complex in the 2600 block of Alvingroom Court, which runs off of MacArthur Boulevard not far from Castlemont High School.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sgt. John Parkinson said Saturday Odumuyiwa had relatives who lived in the complex. He said police are not sure how long he had been there or why he was shot. No arrests had been made Saturday.
Parkinson said police were told by relatives and friends that Odumuyiwa had appeared in some rap videos and also had made some CDs.
