TYLER PERRY MAKES HISTORY; OPENS UP STUDIO

Tyler Perry made history this weekend when he opened the doors to the first-ever African American-owned major television and movie studio. Perry’s new studio will be located in Atlanta, GA, and occupies the building that Delta airlines once called its headquarters.

Perry celebrated his accomplishment with a lavish celebration that featured a guest list of who’s who among African American celebrities, including Oprah Winfrey, Will Smith, Ruby Dee, Sidney Poitier and more! Guests sipped on champagne and were treated to performances by Mary J. Blige (no photos of her for some odd reason), Gladys Knight and Patti LaBelle. Fireworks capped off the evening’s festivities.

Perry spoke to the crowd that was gathered to honor his accomplishment, and payed his respects to living legends attending the soiree by dedicating soundstages at the studio to Sidney Poitier, Ruby Dee and Cicely Tyson.
