A Hayward man was shot and killed early Saturday after a dispute in a crowded Mission Boulevard bar, police said.
Around 1:38 a.m. Hayward police responded to calls of a large crowd causing a disturbance at the Viper Lounge, near the intersection with Valle Vista Avenue. While they were en route, further calls reported shots fired inside the bar.
Arriving officers saw people fleeing the lounge and found the victim inside suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley, becoming Hayward's fifth homicide victim of the year.
Police are withholding the victim's identity while the investigation continues.
Witnesses told officers that the victim was with a group of people who had been arguing with another group in the bar. Police described the shooting suspect as a Latino in his 20s or 30s, with short dark hair, wearing a white T-shirt. He was last seen running away with his group.
