HAYWARD, Calif. (KCBS) -- Hayward police arrested six suspected gang members Wednesday in connection with a murder at the Viper Lounge last month.
On Aug. 30, 24-year-old Nathan Tuitasi of Hayward was shot to death after some kind of an altercation between two groups outside the bar in the 29000 block of Mission Boulevard just before 2 a.m.
“One of the groups, we believe, is a local gang made up of at least seven people that we’ve been able to identify,” said Lt. Chris Orrey. Another person who remains at large also helped kill Tuitasi, she said.
Two 17-year-olds were among those arrested. All were taken into custody on gang conspiracy charges. Most are also facing a second charge of assault with a deadly weapon. But one of the 17-year-olds, and 20-year-old Jason Jimenez Mejia of Hayward, were also arrested on murder charges.
Union City Police and the Alameda County Sheriff’s Department helped with the arrests, made in several different locations in Hayward between 7 a.m and 8 a.m.
Police identifed the others arrested as 26-year-old John Joseph Fragoza of Hayward; 46-year-old Adelino Lee Lopes of San Leandro; and 20-year-old John Wesley James of Hayward. The names of the two teenagers were not released because they are juveniles.
