Philly basks in title warmth

Two down in the ninth inning, and two strikes to Hinske. Perez at second. Lidge to the plate, SLIDER -- struck him out swinging! The Philadelphia Phillies have won the World Series!"
PHILADELPHIA -- On the big day after the big day, the sun finally came out and it shined brightly and warmly on a city that felt brotherly love. It's almost as if it had gone away to let this city figure out how to win a major sports championship all by itself, without any help, and once it did that, it came out to shine.
Shine on, Philly, shine on.

Fans listened to that call by Jon Miller on ESPN Radio over and over again on the local 950-AM affiliate, played before every commercial break. Fans bought every possible copy of newspapers with their boys on the cover, and the papers printed more as they started showing up on eBay for collectors. Fans told their stories to perfect strangers, where they were when Brad Lidge threw the slider, how they sang "We Are The Champions" together, what they did in the streets and at homes, how long they had waited, what the 46-hour rain delay had been like, what excuse they are going to use to get out of work or school on Friday for the parade.

Yes, a parade. That comes next, and that's what it's all about here. They have waited for the parade forever, pretty much. Fan after fan after fan said on radio talk shows and out in the streets and at their offices that it was the "greatest moment" they could remember. Many of them had sudden memory loss about the birth of their children, of the sweet wedding ceremonies, of their first kisses and their graduations. You can take all that perspective and do a Chase Utley and make that unbelievable play up the middle and have the presence of mind to throw it home to Carlos Ruiz -- just throw it.

"It's all sunshine and rainbows now," said a caller named "J.D. in Weeksboro" on a radio show. "Last night I was spraying champagne on complete strangers and we were all loving it. It was on the main street in Weeksboro. You have to worry more about bumping into cornstalks than anyone else, but we had a great party nevertheless."

"I just can't believe it's real," said "Marcus in Philly." "I'm watching Lidge strike [Eric Hinske] out. With everything going on, the economy, the city really needed that. Just to witness it, after so many letdowns. To see it happen before your eyes, it's just a shock. It's like: Is this real? I keep waiting to wake up from a dream."

There is no waking up now, no turning back to a time of more than 9,000 consecutive games of four major sports teams between championships. There is a parade starting at noon ET on Friday at 20th and Market Streets. It will proceed to City Hall to South Broad Street to the Stadium Complex. Complimentary tickets were made available starting at 3 p.m. on Phillies.com for seating at Citizens Bank Park and the adjacent Lincoln Financial Stadium, with the alcohol-free, parade-ending live event scheduled for the Phillies' ballpark and also shown on the giant screen (with live player participation) at the Eagles' stadium. Those tickets no longer were available by 4:30 p.m.

Plenty of opportunity will exist for everyone in Philadelphia to enjoy the parade. It promises to be a dramatic turnout, a long-awaited thrill ride. The World Series champs will ride on flatbed trucks being converted into floats. You can just picture seeing the Phillie Phanatic aboard, and the Commissioner's Trophy, and Ryan Howard and Cole Hamels and Jimmy Rollins, and mega-popular manager Charlie Manuel, and the Phillies Ballgirls, and all those people who made the wait worth it.

"I think it'll be a wonderful celebration," Phillies president Dave Montgomery said. "We're going to get our players to -- not literally, but figuratively -- touch as many fans as we can. They did that with the crowd after the game, and this is a great opportunity for players and fans to all share the celebration together. If winning 103 ballgames this year can create this much joy, it's marvelous."

It's like sunshine.

The Daily News printed 350,000 copies and it wasn't enough. A company spokesman said they were printing another 350,000 and delivering them today. The hostess at McFadden's, a restaurant and saloon that fronts Citizens Bank Park for 365-day business, said she collected a paper from each day this postseason and "now I am finally ready to create the greatest scrapbook ever."

Fans will have to pick and choose where to watch, bottom line. There will be an estimated one million fans participating in this greatly anticipated parade, and city officials urged everyone to use mass transit. They also emphasized that only so many people will fit into public transportation at one time, and Mayor Michael Nutter even suggested that people "take your patience pills." Hey, these people know all about patience. They waited since 1980 to win the World Series, waited 25 years for a major sports title, waited those remarkable 46 hours during the unprecedented game suspension due to horrible weather that intervened.

During the news conference Thursday, Nutter was told that this World Series would be remembered for that unprecedented delay and was asked if it actually helped the city plan for the parade and what this parade meant in the big picture. His response was a terse correction that brought applause from some in the news conference:

"I thought the Series was going to be known for the Phillies winning in five."

In other words, who cares how it happened? What was a little rain and wind? So what if Rollins couldn't even see that fly ball that dropped somewhere near him. So what if Hamels had to step aside and watch his teammates come through in the final three innings of the clincher. The sun came out again the next day.

For Phillies fans, talking about the big moment never gets old now. Each time, you could close your eyes and picture Lidge dropping to his knees, Ruiz coming out to hug him, and Howard bearing down like a Mack truck about to create an official dog pile. You wonder how Lidge is breathing down under that pile.

On the day after, it was like sunshine.

Mike Schmidt was talking about this celebration scene, remembering how it was when he and his Phillies teammates celebrated in 1980.

"I think it's all about love," Schmidt said. "All these men. When men are hugging men. You travel together, suffer together, conquer together, you reach the top of the mountain, you surely have some serious love for one another."

On the day after, you giggle to yourself at the thought of Utley, that professional model of consistency and even-keeled stoicism, circling around the clubhouse time after time, a couple of beers stuffed into his left rear pocket, sneaking up on teammates and spraying them with champagne, just loving the moment. He was like the playmaker in the champagne scene, in a sneaky way.

On the day after, you think about Howard's words: "Starve no more."

He said that to the whole Phillies fan base. It is their time now. It was their wave of humanity that consumed Broad Street into the postgame wildness, and the biggest crowd hasn't even started to form yet.

"It was the greatest night of my life," said a caller named Randy. "After the clincher, we heard all these people from Penn and Drexel come running down Market Street. We went down to Broad Street, and it was just great, strangers hugging strangers. I even saw a blind man with his cane walking down the street, and I gave him a hug."

There's a lot of love here. It's just starting to show now, because the sun finally came out, the Rays went home, and the warm feeling of a World Series championship made you even prouder to be a Phillies fanBy Mark Newman / MLB.com

JAY-Z PUSHED BACK TIL 09!

Jay-Z has come out in the 4h quarter for so long, I cannot remember the last time he didn’t drop then. Well, the next time is now. The rapper’s Blueprint 3 album is looking like it’s going to come out in March of 2009. There you go – The Carter Tour! We do know a few good things about this album. Part of that is Jay and Kanye have recorded a number of songs. I am hoping there is a lack of vocoder in them. Speaking of the vocoder…why is Diddy doing a whole CD of that mess? I like Diddy, but this is nuts!

Willie Horton Ad and Goldwater Daisy ad

These are probably the two most efective political campaign comercial in U.S history. both of these ads pretty much won thelection for the candidate that used them. the firest one is the willie horton ads Bush ran against Dukakis which eventually got Bush sr. Elected into office
This ad was made by LBJ when e ran against republican warmonger Barry Goldwater. i am not a republican but i know goldwater is known as the fater to all republicans. this is before Raegen i guess. but this ad defeated goldwater.

history of African Americans that ran for president

Despite the intense coverage of Illinois Senator Barack Obama’s run for the highest office—President of the United States—the reports that he is the “first” African-American to try for that office are simply false. According to the Chicago Tribune, Senator Obama’s gracious response to an unfortunate remark by a fellow senator, gave credit to some of those who came before him. He’s quoted in that newspaper as saying, “African-American presidential candidates like Jesse Jackson, Shirley Chisholm, Carol Moseley Braun and Al Sharpton gave a voice to many important issues through their campaigns…”

During this politically charged African-American History Month, a look at the African-American presidential candidates of the last 40 years and related books might be in order.

New Yorker Shirley Chisholm (1924-2005), a Democrat, was the first African-American woman to be elected to Congress in 1968. She ran for president in 1972. (Note that neither Ms. Chisholm nor Hillary Clinton was the first woman to run for this office.Victoria Claflin Woodhull was the Equal Rights Party’s presidential candidate in 1872—and famous former slave, Frederick Douglass, was nominated, but did not accept, the place as her vice presidential running mate.)

The Good Fight by Shirley Chisholm

In 1984 and 1988, the Baptist minister and civil rights activist Jesse Jackson (1941-) ran for president as a Democrat. Although he lost his party’s nomination in both years, his liberal platform resonated with many voters in the primaries.

Dr. Lenora Fulani (1950-), a psychologist and social activist, ran as an Independent in 1988 and 1992 . In 1988 she was the first woman and the first African American to get on the ballot for president in all 50 states.

The Making of a Fringe Candidate 1992 by Lenora B. Fulani

Alan Keyes (1950-) had been a diplomat and public speaker when he ran for president as a Republican in 1996 and 2000. Mr. Keyes, known for his conservative views, also ran for the U.S. Senate against Barack Obama in 2004.

Our Character, Our Future by Alan L. Keyes

Before he ran for president as a Democrat in 2004, activist and Pentecostal minister (Alfred) Al Sharpton, Jr., (1954-) ran for U.S. Senate and mayor of New York. He has also been a television personality and tour manager for the late singer, James Brown.

In 1993, Democrat Carol Moseley Braun (1947-) became the first and, so far, only African-American woman elected to the U.S. Senate. In 2004, as a former senator from Illinois, Ms. Braun became a candidate for president.

The motherfuckin Harvard Law review. if you are still debating who to vote for your an idiot. fuck President #1 in Harvard LAw school. this man should be fuckin king. for a black man to be the president of the Harvard law review he is a very acceptional human being. this man in our future. okay so i guess i am preaching.

Louis Vuitton Timeline

l

Louis Vuitton (born, August 4, 1821; died, February 27, 1892, future founder of his eponymous company, was born in Jura, France (now part of the commune of Lavans-sur-Valouse. In 1835, he moved to Paris. The trip from his hometown to Paris was over 400 kilometers (249 mi), and he travelled the distance by foot. On his way there, he picked up a series of odd jobs to pay for his journey. There, he became an apprentice Layetier to prominent households. Because of his well established reputation in his field, Napoleon III of France appointed Vuitton as Layetier to his wife, Empress Eugénie de Montijo. Through his experience with the French aristocracy, he developed expert knowledge of what made a good travelling case. It was then that he began to design his own luggage, setting the foundations for LV Co.

Louis Vuitton designed and manufactured luggage in Paris during the second half of the nineteenth century. Almost one hundred fifty years later, Vuitton's signature leathergoods are now a status symbol around the globe and are highly regarded in the fashion world. The Louis Vuitton "Monogram Canvas" design can be considered the very first "designer label" on a product (the first in the contemporary sense), as it was created in 1896 with the intent of preventing counterfeiting.

The Louis Vuitton Company

Early Days (1854-1892)

1854 - Vuitton opened his first store in Paris on Rue Nueve des Capucines, founding Louis Vuitton Malletier ("Louis Vuitton Trunk-Maker"). He began by selling flat-topped trunks that were lightweight and airtight. (Vuitton was the first trunk-maker to create a flat-topped trunk. All trunks before this had rounded tops for water to run off, and thus could not be stacked.) His very first piece was the gray Trianon canvas flat trunk. The same year, Vuitton's goods were purchased by France's Empress Eugénie

1860 - Vuitton opened a larger factory in Asnières-sur-Seine to accommodate increased demand.

1867 - Vuitton entered the Universal Exhibition at the World's Fair in Paris, winning the bronze medal.

1872 - Creation of the red and beige striped canvas.

1876 - Creation of the wardrobe trunk, which contained a rail and small drawers for storing clothing.

1880 - Georges gets married and (on the same day) is given control of the business. Georges is credited with developing the unique five-number combination lock found on Vuitton trunks.

1883 - Georges' son Gaston-Louis is born.

1885 - The first Louis Vuitton store in London opens.

1888 - The Damier Canvas pattern is created by Louis Vuitton in collaboration with Georges, and bears a logo that reads "marque L. Vuitton déposée" (which literally means "mark L. Vuitton deposited" or roughly "L. Vuitton trademark").

1889 - Vuitton wins the gold medal at the World's Fair in Paris.
1892 - Vuitton dies; the Vuitton company begins selling handbags.

Golden Age of Louis Vuitton (1893-1936)

After Vuitton's death, Georges amazingly made Louis Vuitton a worldwide corporation.

1893 - Georges displays Vuitton products at the World's Fair in Chicago.

1894 - Georges publishes his book "Le Voyage".

1896 - Georges designs the 'Monogram Canvas'. It came to be called 'Monogram Canvas;' its graphic symbols were based on the trend for Japanese/Oriental designs in the late Victorian Period. This can be considered the first "designer logo", since Georges was driven to create this pattern to prevent further copying of Vuitton patterns (counterfeiting had already begun by this point).

Georges then sailed to the United States, in which he toured various cities such as New York, Philadelphia, and Chicago. He sold Vuitton products during the visit.

1899 - Georges exhibited Vuitton products at the maiden Paris Auto Show.

1900 - Georges Vuitton was given the honor to set up the "Travel Items and Leather Goods" section of the 1900 Paris World Fair.

1901 - the Louis Vuitton Company introduced the 'Steamer Bag', a handbag to be kept inside Vuitton luggage trunks.

1904 - Georges chaired the jury for the St. Louis World Fair. In the same year, the Louis Vuitton company introduced a new line of trunks that have special compartments for items such as perfumes, clothing, and other goods.
1906 - Georges' son Gaston-Louis married '''Renee Versille''' and Louis Vuitton introduces trunks for automobiles

1914 - The Louis Vuitton Building opens in Champs-Elysees. The building was the largest travel-goods store in the world at that time. Store locations open in New York, Bombay, Washington, London, Alexandria and Buenos Aires as World War I begins.
1924 - Only eight years after the end of World War I, the 'Keepall' is invented. This bag foreran the duffel bag in a travel bag for light travel to keep necessities in
1929 - The seventy-fifth anniversary of Louis Vuitton, a toiletry case is introduced specifically for opera singer Marthe Chenal. It could fit bottles, brushes, mirrors, powder boxes and more toiletries.

1931 - Louis Vuitton introduced exotic bags such as a handbag of crocodile skin, as well as elephant hide handbags for the Colonial Exhibition.

1933 - The Louis Vuitton Speedy bag was introduced.

1936 - The golden age of Louis Vuitton ends as Georges Vuitton passes away. Estimates attribute Georges Vuitton with over 700 new Vuitton designs. Gaston-Louis Vuitton assumes control of the company. The secretary trunk is introduced for Leopold Stokowski, a conductor.

Modern Age of Louis Vuitton (1937-1996)

1959 - The company revamps it signature Monogram Canvas to make it more supple, allowing it to be used for purses, bags, and wallets.

1977 - Annual sales reach 70 million French francs (around US$10 million).

1978 - Vuitton opens its first stores in Japan, in Tokyo and Osaka. (Sales in Japan would come to account for nearly half of the company's total revenue by the 1980s.)

1983 - The Louis Vuitton company joins with America's Cup to form the Louis Vuitton Cup, a preliminary competition (called an eliminatory regatta) for the world's most prestigious yacht race.

1984 - Vuitton expands its presence in Asia by opening its first store in Korea, in Seoul.

1986 - The company introduces its '''Epi''' leather line.

1987 - Moët et Chandon and Hennessy, leading manufacturers of champagne and of brandy, respectively, merges with Louis Vuitton to form the world's largest luxury goods conglomerate, LVMH. The group is partly owned by the Christian Dior group, and Bernard Arnault is Chairman and CEO of both companies.

1988 - Vuitton reports profits up 49% from the prior year.

1988 - The company hosts its first Louis Vuitton Classic car show in Paris.

1989 - The company's stores total 130 worldwide.

1990 - Yves Carcelle is named president of the company.

1992 - The first store in China is opened at the Palace Hotel in Beijing.

1993 - The '''Taiga''' leather line is introduced.

1996 - The centennial of the Monogram Canvas is celebrated in seven cites across the world, marked by parties at stores and the release of limited-edition items bearing the signature design.
Millennium Age of Louis Vuitton (1997-present)

1997 - Louis Vuitton hires designer Marc Jacobs to be the label's artistic director. The same year, he designed and introduced the company's first ''Prêt-à-Porter'' line of clothing.
2001 - Stephen Sprouse, in collaboration with Marc Jacobs, designs a limited edition line of Vuitton bags that feature graffiti written over the monogram pattern. The graffiti says ''Louis Vuitton'' and, on certain bags, the name of the bag. The graffiti appeared in green and white. Four pieces with the graffiti over the monogram included the Keepall, the Speedy, the Pochette Accessories and the Pochette Porte-Monnaie Crédit Wallet. A few handbags, which were even more limited in number than the four regular graffiti pieces, featured the graffiti design in peach or black on top of a solid white or black background. These were only available to the customer's on Vuitton's "V.I.P" list.
2003 - Takashi Murakami, in collaboration with Marc Jacobs, masterminds the new "Monogram Multicolore" canvas range of handbags and accessories. This range includes the monograms of the standard Louis Vuitton Monogram Canvas, but in 33 different colors, on either a white or a black background.

Takashi Murakami creates the "Cherry Blossom" pattern, in which smiling cartoon faces (which resemble anime cartoons) in the middle of pink and yellow flowers are sporadically placed atop the Monogram Canvas. This pattern appeared on a limited number of pieces, which sold out quickly. Certain pieces featured a pink version of the Monogram Canvas.
2005 - Takashi Murakami creates the "Monogram Cerises" pattern, in which cherries with faces on them (again, resembling anime cartoons) are placed over Monogram Canvas on select pieces. The line was being sold on LVMH's official retail website, eLUXURY, in the spring of 2006, but was no longer available by the end of May of 2006.

2008 - Marc Jacobs collaborates with American artist and photographer Richard Prince to create the newest addition of iconic handbags to the house, featuring Prince’s spray painting technique, Henny Youngman jokes and the monogram watercolor bag.

The brand is highly counterfeited, and just over 1% of the items bearing the trademark Monogram Canvas are authentic. Ironically, the signature Monogram Canvas was created to ''prevent'' counterfeiting.

http://www.iht.com/articles/2006/06/25/business/google.php

In 2004, Louis Vuitton fakes accounted for 18% of counterfeit accessories seized in the European Union.

http://business.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,8209-2220038,00.html

In 2005, Louis Vuitton Malletier, a subsidiary of LVMH that handles the manufacture of Vuitton goods, successfully sued Google in France, and Google was ordered to pay US$250,000 for trademark violations, unfair competition, and misleading advertising. Vuitton has collected half the award, but Google has not settled the suit in full, alleging, in part, that French courts don't have jurisdiction over certain Google domain names.

http://www.iht.com/articles/2006/06/25/business/google.php

As of 2006, LVMH, Vuitton's parent company, said that it employed "some 60 people at various levels of responsibility working full time on anti-counterfeiting, in collaboration with a wide network of outside investigators and a team of lawyers."

http://business.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,8209-2220038,00.html

In 2004, the brand's firm stance led to over 13,000 legal actions, more than 6,000 raids, over 947 arrests and the seizure of fake printing cylinders.

Bossip recently sat down with resident scruffboy, Jim Jones, shown here rocking his Mother Teresa swag, to discuss his latest ventures including his current role in “The Hip Hop Monologues.”

(On his cd content) Life is one big cliché, it’s not too much different things you can talk about as far as when you coming up. We talk about money, cash, cars ho’s and couple good things in between. For the most part, I’m tryna get the money. (On swagger jacking) For the most part, it was a big joke. You know I’m a jokester in the game cause it’s nothing too serious about this game. It’s a bunch of dweebs, nerds and it’s some old niggas that’s a about to turn 50 that can’t let their high school careers go. So, I’m always making a mockery of people, but where I’m from, Harlem, we stay stylish. We set the precedence for the game as far as the dress code. For the last four or five years, I’ve done a lot for the hip hop community as far as my little rock star style. I always wanted to be a rock-star when I was younger.

According to Livesteez, Al is as hot as fish grease over some remarks made by the infamously racist New York Post:

Post, and is calling for the publication to take immediate action to address what he calls “blatant racism” and a “media lynching.” Post columnist Steve Serby wrote in his Monday’s edition: “Good for Tom Coughlin. Good for Coughlin for tightening the noose around Plaxico Burress.” The star wide receiver has been fined and benched by the Giants for infractions including tardiness and missing practices. On Saturday, Burress skipped a treatment for his neck, and was benched during the first quarter of the Giants’ win in Pittsburgh Sunday, reports New York Daily News. In criticizing Burress, Serby used a racially loaded and offensive term, Sharpton told the Daily News. “To make such a blatant racist statement about an African-American football player with a neck injury is completely unacceptable,” Sharpton said. “Clearly, the racial connotation is very disturbing. … This is the verbal reflection of a hanging noose.” “If we don’t see action, I will lay out exactly what that is … we would like to talk to someone there about whether it was the writer or editor who let this in.”

We might have to ride with Al on this one. Those are extremely flagrantly racist and inflammatory words. This is just more evidence of the change so sorely needed in this nation.

‘DUMB N*GGER’ RECEIPT

Keith Slater, 22, bought a pair of shoes from Journeys, but later returned them after finding a cheaper pair at another store. Slater received more than a refund, though.

Printed on the receipt to identify the customer are the words “Dumb N*gger”.

“When he showed me that receipt, I could not believe it. He couldn’t believe it. I couldn’t believe it. None of us got any sleep just thinking about it,” said Slater’s mother, Linda.

Slater’s father, Keith, feels that “the appropriate thing to do is to terminate the employee because it’s just inappropriate for that to be there, and then to have that deleted from their system.”

The Slaters filed a complaint with mall security, and a representative of the U.S. Department of Justice said it would refer the case to the FBI to determine whether a civil rights violation has occurred.

Journeys issued the following statement:

“While we are continuing to investigate this incident, it now appears that an employee in one of our stores entered highly inappropriate statements in a form used to process a merchandise return. Needless to say, such an act was not authorized by Journeys, and will not be tolerated. This employee has been terminated.

POLITICS/VIDEO: OBAMA’S CLOSING ARGUMENT

Senator Obama told voters on Monday that “we are one week away from changing America.” Delivering what his campaign billed as his “closing argument,” Obama told a crowd in Canton, Ohio, that “there’s so much at stake” in the week ahead.

In his speech, Senator Obama told voters that after twenty-one months and three debates, Senator McCain still has not been able to tell the American people a single major thing he’d do differently from George Bush when it comes to the economy. “We cannot let up for one day, one minute, or one second in this last week. Not now,” he said. View the video above or read the transcript

Daniel Cowart, 20, and Paul Schlesselman, 18, self-described white supremacists, have been charged with plotting a “killing spree” against blacks and an assassination attempt on Sen. Barack Obama.

Both were charged with illegal possession of a sawed-off shotgun, conspiracy to rob a federally licensed gun dealer and making threats against a presidential candidate.

One law enforcement source said, “We take this very, very seriously but we see no evidence these guys have the ability or the wherewithal to pull off what they say they wanted to do.”
